Blurb:

At the North Pole, no one is more powerful and feared than the Prince of Frost. As general of the toy soldier army, Jack Frost has been working extra hard to put away the villainous Mouse King once and for all. If that isn’t taxing enough, Jack has to deal with the scandal and gossip brought on by news of his relationship with Rudy Rein Dear, captain of the Rein Dear Squadron, which hit headlines last holiday season. Lucky for Jack, his reputation has managed to deter any foolish attempts to stir up trouble. At least until now.

When someone sabotages Rudy’s plane during a test run a few weeks before Christmas, Jack is determined to find the culprit by any means necessary. The closer he gets to finding answers, the more difficulty he has not falling back to his icy ways. Has the Mouse King stepped up his game in order to throw Jack off his, or is someone a little closer to home behind the attempt on Rudy’s life? Either way, Jack has every intention of delivering a Christmas they won’t soon forget, even if it means losing the newfound warmth in his heart.

Excerpt:

Jack couldn’t help but linger in the doorway, watching his lover lounging on the blue tufted-velvet davenport, the sides of his bright red paisley robe having slipped precariously open to reveal his bare, tanned leg. He had a book in his hand, and another small stack of them lay on the floor beside him. His hair was roguishly tousled, and his bottom lip was caught between his teeth. The room smelled of cinnamon and spices, and the record player on the small table in the corner played soft Christmas melodies.

Rudy let out a wistful sigh. “If only I had my own handsome prince to sweep me off my feet.”

With a chuckle, Jack walked into the room.

“Oh, wait. I do.” Rudy snapped the book shut and turned his head in Jack’s direction. “Hello, handsome prince.” He sat up and moved over so Jack could take a seat beside him. Soon as Jack was seated, he slipped his arms around Rudy and leaned in for a kiss.

“Hello, sweetheart.”

“How did it go?” Rudy wrapped his arms around Jack, his chin coming to rest on Jack’s shoulder. His expression must have said it all because Rudy’s arms tightened around him. “That well, huh?”

“Apparently frivolity at parties is to be added to the list of activities which are beneath me. His arrogance seems to have no limit. I swear if it wasn’t for Kringle, my father would believe he had given life to Christmas himself.”

“He really is overbearing, isn’t he?” Rudy brushed his fingers through Jack’s hair, soothing him.

“Nothing new.” Jack pulled him close so he could plant a kiss on his temple. “What would’ve become of me without you?”

“Enough of those thoughts,” Rudy said, motioning toward the tub. “I prepared a nice hot bath for us.”

“You waited for me?”

“Of course. What fun is a bath without you?” Rudy slipped off the other end of the davenport and walked around to Jack’s side. With a sexy little smile, he got down on his knees and took hold of Jack’s boot, pulling it off, then the other. He made his way up Jack’s body, removing his uniform piece by piece and laying it neatly on the tufted velvet until Jack was down to his breeches and white undershirt. A shiver went through Jack as Rudy’s hands slid up his torso, feeling his way up as he removed the soft shirt. Once Jack was bare to his waist, Rudy took hold of his hand and pulled him to his feet.

“You were amazing tonight. Handsome, enchanting, graceful. You should have seen Vixen’s face. He was insanely jealous.”

“Really?”

“Yes. He said if he had known about you, he would have crawled into your bed long ago.”

Rudy was teasing him, but the thought of giving Rudy up for the brash and uninhibited Vixen had Jack shuddering. “He wouldn’t have gotten anything but a frozen backside, if he was lucky.”

“Oh?” Rudy released Jack and walked over to the end of the colossal marble tub. “But he’s very handsome.”

“All flash, no substance.”

“Affectionate.”

“You’re being too kind. We both know he’s a floozy.”

Rudy laughed. “Are you saying you wouldn’t have considered it? Even for a quick romp in the snow?”

“I’d rather freeze my baubles off,” he grumbled, his gaze fixed on Rudy’s face before it moved to those long, slender fingers resting on the sash of his robe.

“Jack, please, I’m very fond of your baubles.”

It wasn’t his own baubles he was concerned about at the moment. He stood mesmerized as Rudy turned away from him and his robe cascaded to the floor, revealing all that sun-kissed skin and sensual physique. Working on planes might be a labor of love for Rudy, but all that laboring had the most astounding effect on his lover’s body.

The well-defined muscles in Rudy’s back moved and shifted as he stretched, undoubtedly more for Jack’s benefit than any real need for it. Jack’s gaze raked down the curve of Rudy’s spine to his perfectly rounded backside. It was true, Jack could appreciate the beauty of a Sugarplum fairy, but nothing could compare to the beautiful grace of his lover.

What’s coming up next?

weeklynewsupdateHello all! This month has been pretty crazy what with my current WIP and The Impetuous Afflictions Blog Tour. The tour is still going on until the 1st of Dec for anyone who’d like to catch up with the excerpts or wants to enter the contest. Here’s a little rundown of what’s happening at the moment and what’s coming up.

The Impetuous Afflictions of Jonathan Wolfe has gotten some amazing reviews! I just want to thank all the lovely readers and reviewers who’ve taken the time to read Johnnie’s story and leave such wonderful comments. It really makes me so happy hearing you’ve enjoyed it. Thank you to all the new readers who’ve picked up The Auspicious Troubles of Chance. You can bet Chance is basking in the attention. And finally, thank you to everyone who followed the tour. You’ve all been so great!

– I have a tentative release date for The Heart of Frost: Dec 18th. I’m not making an official announcement yet in case the date changes, though I don’t expect it to. I reckon it’ll hit Dreamspinner’s “Coming Soon” page any day now, so it’ll be confirmed. I just saw the final artwork for the cover and oh my god! Paul Richmond did the most AMAZING job. I was squeeing like a crazy person when it hit my inbox. Jack and Rudy are on the cover and… oh, I’m just so happy with it! Don’t worry, I’ll share soon as I can. There will also be a blog tour, and on Dec 14th a Facebook chat, but I’ll let you all know the details of both closer to the time.

– I’m currently finishing up the first book of a four book series. This is a new venture for me with it being a contemporary shifter series. Unlike An Intrepid Trip to Love which is contemporary/fantasy, this new series is set in NYC, modern time, and revolves around a special law enforcement team, their adventures, and of course, the romance centering around two of the team’s very different agents.

I’m really excited about it, but I’m waiting until I’ve got the first one contracted before squeeing all over everyone and sharing more with you. The schedule for this series is pretty tight, though the first book more than the others. But my hope is to get them released within a month or so of each other in 2014 so readers don’t have to wait a year between releases, so yep, a lot of work going on. I’m hoping the first three books will be available in eBook and paperback by the time next GRL rolls around. I’ve also got at least three spin-offs in mind as well. So this series is pretty much consuming my life between now and June of next year writing-wise, though I hope to get a few shorter stories out in between. I really hope you’ll love these fellas as much as I’m loving them!

– I’m hoping to get a newsletter started in the new year Jan/Feb. It’ll be once a month and feature all kinds of fun stuff, including exclusive scene extras, flash-fiction, giveaways, and more, so stay tuned for that!

Also Dreamspinner is having a most awesome sale until Saturday! So if you’re looking to pick up some Christmas stories and you like the sound of sweet Christmas elves foiling some dastardly deviants and falling in love, Mending Noel is 30% off!

I Made a Thing! But…

recent news and updates150As the title of the post says, I made a thing. But… I can’t show you yet. Evil, I know. With The Impetuous Afflictions of Jonathan Wolfe (why do I pick such long titles?) coming out soon, I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with something creative for its release. It’s been a while since I’ve had something new out that isn’t a free read. It will be almost a year actually.

Anyway, I’ve finished first round of edits (yay!), and I’ve been thinking of what to do when it comes time to promote it, especially since it deals with some tough issues. Every time I read particular snippets, I get a little teary eyed. Which of course makes me nervous, but then again, I don’t know if I’ll ever not be nervous when I have a new book out.

I’ve been creating some exclusive artwork for Johnnie’s book and getting crafty for Jack’s. Since The Heart of Frost is a holiday story, coming up with some cute promo items isn’t too difficult and I’m excited about what I’ve come up with so far. So at the moment, I’m working on any edits that come my way from both those stories, and coming up with ideas for some exciting promo bits. More to come soon!

New Contract from DSP for The Heart of Frost!

recent news and updates150Woot woot! I just got a contract from Dreamspinner Press for my Christmas novella The Heart of Frost!

Ever since Mending Noel, I was itching to give Jack and Rudy their own story. Originally I figured it would be about the same length as Mending Noel, but of course it didn’t work out that way and it ended up being twice as long, coming in at just over 30k. I had such a fun time these fellas.

Although we get more of Tim and Noel–now a year later into their relationship, the story mostly revolves around the imposing Prince of Frost and his sexy pilot, Rudy Rein Dear who’s Captain of the Rein Dear Squadron. We met the two in Mending Noel and learned about their secret. Now we get to the see how Jack and Rudy are holding up a year after the scandal. I really enjoyed delving into their personalities, their relationship, and the magical world they live in up in North Pole City. I hope you will too! I’ll post more about these fellas as we get closer to the release date so stay tuned.

Wednesday Writing: WIP The Heart of Frost

wedwritingcc180Hello all! For this week’s Wednesday Writing I thought I’d share a little excerpt from my current work in progress, The Heart of Frost. I decided that for next year’s Christmas story, I’m going to write it this Christmas, because I tell you, writing a Christmas story in June is tough, especially when you live in Florida.

I mean getting into the spirit of the holidays during the holidays is pretty challenging for me as it is in these parts, so imagine doing it when the weather outside is a glaring ninety-something. To get me into the mood, and what’s gotten me absorbed in my story has been listening to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and referring to a good deal of visuals. Most of which you can find here in my Pinterest Christmas story album.

For my ending, I listened to this song. Carol of the Bells is one my favorites. It’s so dramatic and epic.

FrozenHeartThe Heart of Frost is about the imposing Prince of Frost–Jack, and the Captain of Mayor Kringle’s Rein Dear Squadron–Rudy, both of who appeared in Mending Noel, helping out Tim and Noel. Initially had planned to make Jack and Rudy’s book the same length as Mending Noel, but as I started world building, I realized it was going to end up longer.

In this book, you get to see more of North Pole City, get to meet the King of Frost–Jack’s father, Hollis and Vale which are Jack’s cousins–twins, and a couple of other characters. We get to learn about how Jack and Rudy first got together, and the danger Jack faces when Rudy’s biplane is sabotaged just a few weeks before the Big Flight–a danger linked to his past and his heart.

Excerpt:

What a glorious sight. His hair was roguishly tousled, and his bottom lip between his teeth. “Enough of those thoughts,” Rudy said, motioning toward the tub. “I prepared a nice hot bath for us.”

“You waited for me?”

“Of course. What fun is a bath without you?” Without a second thought to the matter, Rudy slipped off the other end of the davenport and walked around to Jack’s side. With a sexy little smile, he got down on his knees and took hold of Jack’s boot, pulling one off then the other.
