THIRDS Thursday eBook News!

THIRDS Thursdays

Hello all! I have some exciting news about the THIRDS Thursdays Flash Fiction stories. For several months now I’ve been asked if the stories will be released in eBook format. I’m super excited to announce they’ll be released through Dreamspinner Press, and there are currently two volumes in the production process! So what does that mean exactly?

I wanted readers all over the world to have access to the eBooks, so we discussed the best way to do this. If the eBooks were offered for free, they would only be available for download through the Dreamspinner Press website, which isn’t accessible to some folks, especially a good number of International readers. In order to make the eBooks available through a larger number of online retailers, just like the THIRDS series, the flash fiction eBooks would need to be placed on sale. So we decided on the low sale price point of 0.99 cents. Some folks may be wondering: Why would I pay for something I got to read for free? Good question.

Each volume will be roughly 40,000 words in length, and include a brand new, previously unpublished flash fiction story. The stories will be professionally edited, and have professional cover art. Plus, all the royalties I earn from these two volumes will be donated to Big Cat Rescue, a sanctuary for abused and abandoned big cats. So for your 99 cents, you get a long novella length eBook with added brand new content, you get the THIRDS Thursday stories on your e-Reader, but most importantly, you’ll be helping a wonderful cause.

So what does that mean for those stories on the blog and Goodreads?

Since the two volumes are under contract, these stories will need to be removed from the blog and Goodreads group, but ONLY the stories written up to and including December 10th, 2015. They’ll be removed at the end of February/early March while the eBooks are in edits. Any stories written after December 10th, 2015 will remain on the blog and Goodreads group, and THIRDS Thursdays will continue as normal with new stories. The plan is to release Volume 1 in June, and Volume 2 in October, between regular THIRDS series releases.

Obviously, you don’t have to purchase the eBooks, but if you do, know the royalties are going to help a wonderful charity. Thanks to this series, I’ve learned so much more about big cats. I had the pleasure of visiting Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida, and the stories I heard about some of these cats were heartbreaking, so it warms my heart knowing we can do a little something to help. <3

I’m on tumblr!

tumblrHello all! Yep, I took the plunge and signed up to tumblr. I spend enough time on there as it is browsing my favorite fandoms and all that tumblry goodness, so why not join? I’d been mulling it over for ages. I like the micro-blogging thing and the way the platform is set up, so I’ll be posting inspirational images from books, excerpts, artwork, and all the other good stuff. You can find my tumblr here:

Writerly Things & THIRDS Update

Hello all! I know blogging has been a little slow lately, but that’s down to the THIRDS, and the way in which these guys have totally TAKEN OVER MY LIFE. I’ve received first edits for Hell & High Water (Book 1). Blood & Thunder (Book 2) is with my publisher and I hope to hear back soon. Rack & Ruin (Book 3) I’m currently working on, along with Rise & Fall (Book 4).

I’ve set myself some tough deadlines, but I’m really enjoying it. These fellas have crawled under my skin pretty quickly. After the 4 initial books,  there will be side stories with other pairings–the first, second, and third of which I’ve already added to my schedule, but I hope to write more Dex & Sloane, because their relationship should continue to grow beyond the 4 books. I’ve done artwork for the website which will launch as soon as I’m done with that, and have more solid info on Hell & High Water, like blurb and such. I created three logos which are the THIRDS organization logo (below), and the two patches the team wears on their uniforms, one being their squad’s patch: Destructive Delta, and one being their law enforcement patch for their division, New York City. There will be plenty of swag with the logos. I’ll be revealing the other two logos soon.

THIRDS logo 500px

So that’s the THIRDS main logo displaying the organization’s full name, motto, and in the center the representation of the unity between Therians and Humans. The motto itself translates to: With United Powers, which is what the THIRDS is all about: seeking justice for all, no matter the species, through the union of Human and Therian.

If you’re not sure what Therians are, they’re the shifters in the THIRDS series. In this world, shifters are not referred to as such, and instead they’re a different species referred to as Therians– which comes from Therianthropy: the change from human into animal.

For the THIRDS, I wanted to keep it as realistic as possible (for shifters anyway), and so the birth of this species is scientific rather than fantasy. And the THIRDS is an organization that was put in place to enforce the law, seek justice, and protect this new species, leaving Human law enforcement to deal with Human crimes, though since the two species aren’t segregated, it means the THIRDS often have to deal with Human perpetrators if said Human commits a crime against a Therian citizen.

I’ll be going more into the THIRDS, what it is, how they operate soon, but I loved putting this organization together, and it leaves loads of room for all kinds of stories, since there are three departments within the organization: Defense, Recon, and Intel. Each one has a different type of agent working for it, and these agents work in small squads with teams of two where a Human agent and Therian agent are paired up. Although the organization enforces the law, they’re a military organization for the government, so it operates a little different to the Human police force. I’m happy to answer any questions related to the series, though if it’s a spoiler, my answer may be somewhat vague.

Now onto other things. For anyone who doesn’t know, I’ll be attending RainbowCon at the end of April, and taking part in two panels:
Thursday, April 17th 1 PM Marketing 101
Thursday, April 17th 4 – 4.30 PM Author Q&A
Friday, April 18th 3 PM Roundtable Discussion  on Historicals

I have some wonderful folks with me for both these panels, and I’m really looking forward to it. If you’re attending, make sure you say hello! If you’re looking for a detailed schedule of events, you can find it here: http://rainbowconference.org/schedule.aspx

The M/M Romance group’s writing event has arrived, and although I took part in the last two, I’m afraid I won’t be able to this year as it falls during the wrapping up of Rise & Fall, and conflicts with my writing schedule for Vixen’s Valor: Book 3 in the North Pole City Tales. I really want to make the North Pole City Tales a yearly Christmas thing, so I didn’t want to skip this year, especially with quite a few folks looking forward to the next installment. Hopefully I can make the event next year, though I can’t wait for all the great stories that are sure to come out of it this year!

And for those wondering when the heck I’m going to get to Hunter’s book. He’s on my writing schedule for this year, though it will mean the earliest the book will be released is early next year. Hunter’s books is going to be a full length novel since we have quite a few characters, plus a couple of new ones. It’ll be longer than An Intrepid Trip to Love, and I hope to release it through my lovely publisher so hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait. I’m super grateful to everyone and their patience. <3

New Contracts!!

CharlieRoseHello all! I’m so so so excited to announce I’ve just signed two new contracts with my fabulous publisher Dreamspinner Press!!

The first is for Book 1 in the THIRDS series: Hell & High Water, and the second is for Book 2 in the Fallen Rose series (Julius’s book): A Rose by Any Other Name (Roses in the Devil’s Garden being Book 1)

Providing all goes well, the tentative release dates are June, for Hell & High Water, and Sept for A Rose by Any Other Name. I’m toiling away on THIRDS Book 2, Blood & Thunder. Fingers crossed I can get it done without too much of a delay.

So, this year, if all goes well, and my characters don’t kick my butt, I’ll have six books out. *Cue fainting*. That’s right. 6. Last year I had 3: 1 novel, 2 novellas. This year, I’m hoping to have 5 novels and 1 novella. Did I mention it was going to be a busy year? Oh, and there’s a website and some artwork I need to get done at some point. Still… CONTRACTS!! Woo!! Time for a dance.

What’s coming up next?

weeklynewsupdateHello all! This month has been pretty crazy what with my current WIP and The Impetuous Afflictions Blog Tour. The tour is still going on until the 1st of Dec for anyone who’d like to catch up with the excerpts or wants to enter the contest. Here’s a little rundown of what’s happening at the moment and what’s coming up.

The Impetuous Afflictions of Jonathan Wolfe has gotten some amazing reviews! I just want to thank all the lovely readers and reviewers who’ve taken the time to read Johnnie’s story and leave such wonderful comments. It really makes me so happy hearing you’ve enjoyed it. Thank you to all the new readers who’ve picked up The Auspicious Troubles of Chance. You can bet Chance is basking in the attention. And finally, thank you to everyone who followed the tour. You’ve all been so great!

– I have a tentative release date for The Heart of Frost: Dec 18th. I’m not making an official announcement yet in case the date changes, though I don’t expect it to. I reckon it’ll hit Dreamspinner’s “Coming Soon” page any day now, so it’ll be confirmed. I just saw the final artwork for the cover and oh my god! Paul Richmond did the most AMAZING job. I was squeeing like a crazy person when it hit my inbox. Jack and Rudy are on the cover and… oh, I’m just so happy with it! Don’t worry, I’ll share soon as I can. There will also be a blog tour, and on Dec 14th a Facebook chat, but I’ll let you all know the details of both closer to the time.

– I’m currently finishing up the first book of a four book series. This is a new venture for me with it being a contemporary shifter series. Unlike An Intrepid Trip to Love which is contemporary/fantasy, this new series is set in NYC, modern time, and revolves around a special law enforcement team, their adventures, and of course, the romance centering around two of the team’s very different agents.

I’m really excited about it, but I’m waiting until I’ve got the first one contracted before squeeing all over everyone and sharing more with you. The schedule for this series is pretty tight, though the first book more than the others. But my hope is to get them released within a month or so of each other in 2014 so readers don’t have to wait a year between releases, so yep, a lot of work going on. I’m hoping the first three books will be available in eBook and paperback by the time next GRL rolls around. I’ve also got at least three spin-offs in mind as well. So this series is pretty much consuming my life between now and June of next year writing-wise, though I hope to get a few shorter stories out in between. I really hope you’ll love these fellas as much as I’m loving them!

– I’m hoping to get a newsletter started in the new year Jan/Feb. It’ll be once a month and feature all kinds of fun stuff, including exclusive scene extras, flash-fiction, giveaways, and more, so stay tuned for that!

Also Dreamspinner is having a most awesome sale until Saturday! So if you’re looking to pick up some Christmas stories and you like the sound of sweet Christmas elves foiling some dastardly deviants and falling in love, Mending Noel is 30% off!

New Contract from DSP for The Heart of Frost!

recent news and updates150Woot woot! I just got a contract from Dreamspinner Press for my Christmas novella The Heart of Frost!

Ever since Mending Noel, I was itching to give Jack and Rudy their own story. Originally I figured it would be about the same length as Mending Noel, but of course it didn’t work out that way and it ended up being twice as long, coming in at just over 30k. I had such a fun time these fellas.

Although we get more of Tim and Noel–now a year later into their relationship, the story mostly revolves around the imposing Prince of Frost and his sexy pilot, Rudy Rein Dear who’s Captain of the Rein Dear Squadron. We met the two in Mending Noel and learned about their secret. Now we get to the see how Jack and Rudy are holding up a year after the scandal. I really enjoyed delving into their personalities, their relationship, and the magical world they live in up in North Pole City. I hope you will too! I’ll post more about these fellas as we get closer to the release date so stay tuned.

x Charlie
