#TeaserTuesday – 9/9/17 Tried & True, THIRDS Book 10

Hello, all! This week’s #TeaserTuesday is a snippet of our dynamic duo Dex and Sloane, from Tried & True, the final book in the THIRDS main series which is out November 24th. Happy reading!

“Holy fuck.”

Sloane straightened, his heart pounding. “What is it? Did you find the agent?”

“No, but I found something even better. Dude, Mrs. Bauman’s into BDSM.”

“What?” Sloane let out a breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding.

“Mrs. Bauman. She has an entire closet full of leather stuff, paddles, whips….”

“Why are you searching Mrs. Bauman’s closet?”

“For our guy, or girl, agent.”

“And a highly skilled enemy agent is going to be hiding in Mrs. Bauman’s closet?” Maybe they were taking a page out of Dex’s book. Dexter J. Daley’s 101 Places to Hide If You Want to Get Caught. Number 1. Bedroom Closet. Sloane let out a snort at the memory of a naked Dex hiding from Ash in the bedroom closet back when they’d thought they were being sneaky about their relationship. Of course the closet was the first place Ash looked.

Dex let out a bark of laughter. “Oh my God!”

“What now?” Sloane was going to strangle him.

“Mrs. Bauman has a strap-on.”

“I did not need to know that.”

“Ooh yeah, get your freak on, Mrs. Bauman. Just goes to show you, you’re never too old to get jiggy with it. Man, I hope we’re this adventurous when we get to her age. We’re probably going to need a little something-something to help with the, uh, you know, gravity, but we can make it work. Shit. What if Mrs. Bauman is the agent?”

“Really?”

“Think about it, Sloane. She always happens to pop up when I’m either compromised or half-naked.”

“I think that says more about you than it does our elderly neighbor.”

“I bet her walking that tiny prehistoric dog—which I’m convinced is some kind of wingless pterodactyl—is her doing surveillance. She’s probably got all kinds of explosives hidden in her housedress. Have you seen how ginormous the pockets are?”

“You’re ridiculous.”

“Am I, Sloane? Am I really?”

“Yes.”

“Fine, but when she springs out at you like the wrinkly ninja she is and tries to strangle you with her hairnet, don’t say I didn’t warn you. I bet those rollers are actually grenades.”

“Stop talking.”

#TeaserTuesday – 9/5/17 Soldati Hearts, Book 3

Hello, all! This week’s #TeaserTuesday is a snippet from my current work in progress, book 3 in the Soldati Hearts series. Happy reading!

“Easy there, cub.”

Ezra bristled at the annoying nickname. He lifted his gaze, and narrowed his eyes at the mountain of an Orso blocking his path. Honestly. The man’s stature alone was enough to block out the sun. Why was he so blasted tall? And wide. And… smiling. Why was he smiling at Ezra? Not that there was anything wrong with smiling, but Ezra had done nothing to warrant such a reaction.

“I am not a cub,” Ezra replied with a huff. “Why do you keep calling me that?” He tried to peer around General Segreti to no avail. Perhaps if he stood on his toes? Well that certainly didn’t help. He couldn’t even see over Segreti’s shoulders.

“Because you remind me of a cub. All young, soft, and innocent. What are you doing?”

“I may be young,” Ezra said, lifting his chin proudly, “but I am a Soldati warrior, and hardly innocent.” Where the blasted hell did it go? With a frustrated grunt, he planted his fists on his hips. “General Segreti, if you wouldn’t mind stepping aside. I fear I have lost my quarry.”

Segreti turned to look behind him. “There’s nothing there.”

“Now there isn’t. But there was before you blocked my path.”

“What exactly did you lose?”

“The Eye.”

Segreti peered at him. “The Eye? As in the Soldati Eye? Are you saying you lost the Soldati Eye?”

Ezra let out an exasperated sigh. Perhaps if he exerted some physical effort, he might get Segreti to move. He prodded Segreti, but the man didn’t seem to even notice. Goodness, it was as if he were made of granite. “Of course not. I didn’t lose it. It’s merely hiding from me.”

“Hiding.” Segreti arched an eyebrow at him. “You speak of the Eye as if it has a mind of its own.”

Ezra blinked at him. “That’s because it does, General. Sort of.”

Segreti opened his mouth to reply then closed it. He shook his head, as if attempting to understand. “Why is it hiding from you?”

“Because it’s bored.” Ezra threw his arms up. “I have no bloody notion as to why it does anything. Now would you please step aside so that I might find the blasted thing?”

“Easy there—”

“So help me, if you call me “cub” I’ll—”

“Calm yourself,” Segreti said gently, placing his large hands on Ezra’s shoulders. It should have irritated Ezra. He did not like to be touched. Segreti was incredibly tender despite his very large frame. “Come, I will help you find it.”

Ezra frowned. “You will?”

“Of course.” He winked at Ezra. “I can hardly leave such a charming Soldati in distress.”

Charming? Him? Ezra let out an indelicate snort. What nonsense. If Rayner were here he’d have laughed himself to tears. Why Segreti would think such a thing was beyond Ezra. Regardless, if Segreti wished to be of assistance, Ezra would not deny him, even if he was perfectly capable of finding the Eye on his own.

THIRDS Thursday – 6/1/17 Gummy Bears & Grenades Excerpt

Hello, all! For today’s THIRDS Thursday I’m sharing an excerpt from Gummy Bears & Grenades, which is Dex’s bachelor party. This fun little novella has been contracted by Dreamspinner Press and is due for release in October, along with the paperback combo of Thick & Thin for those who’ve been waiting on Thick & Thin to be released in paperback. Enjoy!

EXCERPT

“Let’s go dance!” Hudson said, pulling Dex back toward the club. Everyone agreed and headed back toward the nightclub when Dex spotted something big, orange, and furry. He let out a huge gasp.

“Hudson, look!”

For some reason, Hudson looked up. With a snort, Dex took hold of his chin and moved his head down so he’d look straight ahead. Either Dex was so drunk he was seeing things, or what he was seeing was really there.

“Dude, is that…?”

Hudson’s eyes went huge. “Oh, no. Dexter, no.”

“Oh yes, Dexter, yes.” Dex clapped his hands gleefully before walking over to whoever it was dressed in a giant orange gummy bear suit handing out flyers. “Can I try on your bear?”

The bear turned to face him and shook its head.

“Please, man. It’s my bachelor party. I’m getting married soon. Please.”

Another shake. Somewhere behind Dex, Seb groaned. “Come on, Dex.”

Dex ignored Seb. “Fine. We’ll do this the hard way.” He pulled his badge out of his inner coat pocket and stuck it in the bear’s face. “Sir, I’m afraid I’m going to have to commandeer your bear.”

“What?” The guy growled.

“You heard me. I’m commandeering your bear. Let’s go.”

“Lobito, what are you doing?” Seb shook his head at Hudson who was running his hand over the bear’s arm.

“It’s so soft. Touch it.”

Seb stared at him. “I’m not doing that.”

“Come on, Sebastian. Touch it.”

“You all are fucking nuts, man.” The guy turned to Hudson. “Is he serious?”

Hudson laughed. “Him? Serious? Never.” His smile fell away. “Except now. He’s deadly serious now.” Hudson poked Dex’s cheek. “This is his serious face. May I touch your nose?”

“You all need to get lost,” bear-suit guy said. “Now.”

Hudson went to touch the bear-suit guy’s nose, and got his hand smacked away. Hudson blinked up at him, his sad puppy eyes all wide and hurt. “You hit me? Why? I just wanted to touch your nose.”

Dex cringed. He shook his head at bear-suit guy. “Ooh, you shouldn’t have done that.”

Seb got all up in the guy’s face. He was growly, scary, and bigger than bear-suit guy. “Did you just hit my husband?”

The guy threw his fuzzy paws up. “I’m sorry! Your friend can take the suit. I’m sorry.” He quickly popped the head off and handed it to Dex before patting his shoulder. “There’s a zipper back there.”

Dex gave the bear head to Hudson, and unzipped the suit. The guy quickly scrambled out.

“They’re not paying me enough for this bullshit. Bunch of crazies. I don’t know why everyone wants this stupid bear.” The second he was out, he took off, leaving a trail of bright orange flyers in his wake. Hudson frowned after him. He shook his head and tsked.

“What a litterbug.”

Dex laughed as he pulled on the bear suit. “I am going to scare the shit out of Ash. Someone zip me up.”

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” Seb grumbled, taking the bear head Hudson handed to him so he could help Dex zipper up. Soon as he was, he nodded to Seb.

“Bear me, bro.”

“You’re out of your damn mind,” Seb said, plopping the head over Dex’s.

“Ouch. Why do you have to be so rough?”

“Because he likes it rough,” Hudson purred, running a finger down Seb’s arm. “Don’t you, darling? I love how naughty you are.”

Seb’s face looked like he was about to spontaneously combust, making Dex laugh.

#TeaserTuesday – 4/18/17 Darkest Hour Before Dawn (THIRDS, Book 9)

This week’s #TeaserTuesday is from Darkest Hour Before Dawn, the ninth book in the THIRDS series, which is out April 25th. Just one week until release day! I’m so excited! Happy Reading!

“What are you doing?”

Hudson pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, his eyes slightly wide. He poked his tongue out to lick his bottom lip.

Christ, how could one man have such an effect on him? Seb put a hand to his heart, the other against the wall to the side of Hudson’s head. “You’re killing me here, Lobito.”

“Don’t call me that.”

“No.”

Hudson eyed him. “No? What do you mean ‘no’?”

“I’m not going to stop calling you that.” Just like he’d never stop loving Hudson, or missing him, needing him, wanting him. He’d had enough of giving in to Hudson’s every whim simply because Hudson asked. It was what he’d always done, and look how well that turned out. Time to do things a little different.

Hudson blinked up at him. “But… I asked you not to.”

“Well, we don’t always get everything we want, do we, sweetheart?”

“Why are you being so difficult?”

“Why are you determined to drive me out of my fucking mind?” Seb growled.

“I’m doing no such thing.”

“Really? So you weren’t letting Trent dry-hump you to make me jealous?”

Hudson’s jaw dropped. “Of all the bloody cheek!” When he next spoke, it was through his teeth. “I was dancing.”

“And watching me.”

“Because you were watching me. Or do you think I can’t feel it when your eyes are on me?”

Seb grunted. “Hard not to when you’re making a spectacle of yourself.”

Hudson’s cheeks flushed a deep crimson, fire burning behind his eyes. “Piss off, Sebastian. I can dance with whomever I damn well please. What you choose to believe is your concern. How dare you judge me? Why don’t you go find West? He couldn’t keep his hands off you, and you obviously enjoyed it.” Hudson was indignant, a pain in the ass, and the most beautiful thing Seb had ever seen. Since when did Hudson get jealous? Not even when they’d been together had Hudson ever become jealous. If he had, Seb never saw it. Hudson was always calm and in control, rational and sensible.

Seb placed his fingers under Hudson’s chin and lifted his face so he could look into his eyes. “You’ve ruined me, you know. I can’t love anyone else.”

“You need to move on, Sebastian.”

“Then give me back the heart you stole from me.” Seb ran his thumb over Hudson’s bottom lip. “You’re a very beautiful thief. Stealing hearts, just to break them and leave them irreparable.”

“If West isn’t enough, I wouldn’t fret. There’s no shortage of cheetah Therians in Recon to fill your bed.”

“Jesus, the mouth on you,” Seb growled, feeling his anger rising. Hudson knew which buttons to push, and he was pushing them all mercilessly.

#TeaserTuesday – 4/4/17 The Foxling Soldati

Hello, all! This week’s teaser is from The Foxling Soldati, book 2 in the Soldati Hearts series which is currently in edits and due for release late July.

A fierce roar echoed through the woods, and Toka gave a start. His heart beating wildly. It was Khalon. He giggled at Rayner’s deadpan expression when he spoke.

“I swear it’s as if he knows I’m enjoying myself.”

Toka gave Rayner a playful shove. “Go on. Your king summons you.”

“Oh, I see how it is,” Rayner teased, drawing Toka into his strong arms. “When he’s being a pain in the backside, he’s my king, but when he’s being magnanimous, he’s our king.” Rayner growled and nipped at Toka’s neck. The scoundrel.

Toka couldn’t help his laugh. “You are a rogue of the worst kind, sir. Charming foxlings with that handsome face and naughty smile. Having your wicked way with them in forests only to leave them pining for your touch.”

Rayner paused. He looked worried as he studied Toka. “You don’t really believe that, do you? That I have my wicked way with other foxlings?” He brushed his fingers down Toka’s jaw. “I promise you, you’re the only foxling I desire.”

Toka smiled sweetly, and he cupped Rayner’s cheek. He smiled and stood on his toes to give Rayner’s lips a sweet kiss. “I know I’m the only foxling you desire.” His smile turned mischievous. “However, the rest is true. You’re handsome, have a naughty smile, you’ve had your wicked way with me, and I’ll most certainly be pining for your touch the moment you step away.”

Rayner licked his bottom lip, his amber eyes glowing with a familiar fire. “Well, I suppose I’ll have to make certain I don’t leave you without my touch for very long.”

Toka pressed himself against Rayner, took Rayner’s hand, and placed it to his backside. “I’ll be waiting.”

“Oh, but I see I’m not the only one who’s wicked,” Rayner said with a groan. Another roar resounded through the woods, and Rayner sighed. Their king was not the most patient man. Rayner took Toka’s hand in his and brought it to his lips for a kiss. “Until our next encounter, my foxling.”

Toka nodded, watching Rayner turn, then break into a run, as sleek and graceful in his human form as he was in his feline body. Rayner changed into his tiger form and stopped to look over his shoulder with a chuff before running off. Toka placed a hand to his rapidly beating heart, unable to believe what had happened. He could barely contain his grin. For the first time in centuries, he felt… so wonderfully happy. It was foolish to think he and Rayner could have a future together, and yet his heart was filled with so much hope.

#TeaserTuesday – 3/21/17

Hello, all! This week’s Teaser Tuesday is a snippet from Rayner and Toka’s book The Foxling Soldati which is the second book in the Soldati Hearts series. Enjoy!

“Could you let Khalon know I’ll be back in half an hour? I’ll be in the garden. I just need to get away from… everything, for a bit. Too much noise.” He turned to Toka. “Would you mind coming with me? I always feel calmer when you’re around.”

Toka smiled. “Of course, Your Highness. It would be my pleasure.”

The relief was instant, and Rayner was glad to see Toka had such a calming effect on Riley. Rayner bowed and excused himself. He chanced a look around, and seeing the corridor clear, he took Toka’s hand in his and brought it to his lips for a kiss.

“Take care of yourself, and our prince.”

Toka blushed, his eyes going soft as he nodded.

“For crying out loud, just kiss him,” Riley whispered, looking around the hall. “There’s no one here.”

Rayner hesitated, but Toka didn’t. He threw his arms around Rayner and brought their lips together in a heated, passionate kiss.

“I miss you,” Rayner murmured against Toka’s lips. “You look striking.”

“As do you,” Toka replied, breathless. He smiled up at Rayner. “I miss you too.”

A door resounded somewhere and Rayner reluctantly pulled away, though not before brushing his fingers down Toka’s cheek. “Be safe.”

Toka nodded, then hurried off with Riley as they made their escape to the gardens. Riley was the most courageous human Rayner had ever known. Well, he was a Soldati, really, but his true nature had only been revealed after his human death. He still behaved as a human, despite his newfound immortality. At times their prince could be skittish, and too much noise, or activity could become overwhelming to his senses. The gardens provided the peace and solace their prince needed.

Rayner returned to the banquet hall. It was getting on in the evening, and Rayner looked forward to retiring for the night. Perhaps he might try and sneak down to the servants’ quarters and spend the night with Toka. He shouldn’t while Pavoni was here, but Rayner was desperate to hold his foxling in his arms and make love to him.

When he reached the platform, he was grateful to see Pavoni was dancing. Khalon looked like he wanted to shift and curl up in his tiger form under the table.

“Where’s Riley?” Khalon asked the moment Rayner sat.

“In the gardens.”

“Oh.” Khalon’s eyes were gentle, and he nodded his understanding, knowing the reasons why Riley sought out the gardens. He sighed. “I’m thankful he finds solace there.”

“He’s a complex creature,” Rayner admitted.

Khalon smiled, his love for his prince evident in his expression. “That he is. Such a gentle soul.”

“Except when he’s angry,” Rayner replied, chuckling at Khalon’s wide eyes.

“Goddess above, you don’t need to tell me.”

“We wanted to come see you when you were in the hospital, but Seb…. He thought it would be best if we didn’t.”

Hudson nodded. He shoved his hands into his pockets, regret filling him. “He was right. It would have been too difficult. It was hard enough having him there.” Hudson cleared his throat. “He wouldn’t leave my side.”

Thomas nodded his understanding. “I expected no less of him. Thank you for saving his life. I don’t know what we would have done without either of you.”

Unable to stand the heartache in Thomas’s face, Hudson pointed to the bag behind him. “I made you my Cornish pasties.”

Thomas’s eyes sparkled, and he grinned like a little boy. He put the armrest with the controller down and moved to the table to take the bag and place it on his lap. With a deadpan expression, he met his wife’s gaze.

“If the boys ask, these were never here.”

Hudson laughed, watching as Thomas headed for the kitchen, calling out over his shoulder, “Especially Ethan. That boy eats more than the other two combined. I swear he has a black hole where his stomach should be.”

“He’s a growing boy,” Julia cooed, following Thomas into the expansive country-style kitchen. She took the bag from him and placed it on the island counter.

Thomas let out a snort. “Growing boy my butt. Darling, he’s thirty-six and almost as big as Seb.” He wrapped an arm around her waist and tugged, lifting his face for a kiss, which his wife happily gave. Hudson all but melted, leaning against the counter and wondering how Julia and Thomas did it. They’d been through so much—losing everything, watching their boys have to work before they were of age, working through Ethan’s selective mutism and social anxiety, through Thomas’s condition. How had Julia and Thomas Hobbs survived all that and still looked at each other as if they were falling in love for the first time?

At the first crisis that hit them, Hudson and Seb had crumbled under the weight. Hudson cleared his throat, fidgeting from one foot to the other.

“How do you do that?” he asked softly. Propriety scolded him for being so intrusive and brash, but he was desperate to know.

They turned to him, Julia’s hand on Thomas’s shoulder and her expression tender.

“How do you forge ahead, never losing yourselves or the love you have for each other, after… everything?”

No question what Seb would look like when he got older—Seb and Ethan were both the spitting image of Thomas Hobbs. At sixty-five years old, Thomas was a handsome man, with a square jaw and green eyes that sparkled with life and mischief. His once-black hair was now salt-and-pepper, and although some of his leg muscles had deteriorated over the years due to his condition, he was still a tiger Therian, strong-bodied and strong-willed. Much like Ethan refused to allow his condition to define him, Thomas refused to be defined by his Therian Acheron Syndrome. Life had never been easy for the Hobbs family, but they endured, always together.

“Son, love is a precious gift, but love alone isn’t enough to weather the storms in life. You know as well as I do that life can be hard, messy, infuriating, terrifying, and unfair, and love will certainly help ease the pain,” Thomas said, taking Julia’s hand in his. “But unless you use that love as a foundation to build on, you’ll get swept away in the maelstrom.”

#TeaserTuesday – 2/21/17 Darkest Hour Before Dawn (THIRDS, Book 9)

Hello, all! This week’s Teaser Tuesday is a snippet from Seb and Hudson’s book Darkest Hour Before Dawn which is book nine in the THIRDS series, and now available for pre-order! Enjoy!

“How are you doing today?” Hudson tried to summon a smile. The least he could do was be civil, for Seb’s sake. The brothers were closer than ever, and Hudson wasn’t about to come between them. Rafe squinted at him, and Hudson let out a soft sigh. “I’m not being snide. I’m genuinely interested.”

Rafe still had a way to go to redeem himself in Hudson’s eyes, but Hudson felt for him. Having known the Hobbs family for years, being present for some of Thomas’s worst days, Hudson wouldn’t wish the condition on anyone. The knowledge that Rafe would one day end up in a wheelchair like his father, at the mercy of agonizing pain, hurt Hudson. Rafe was Seb and Ethan’s big brother. A huge tiger Therian, built of what seemed like solid muscle. At seven foot two and over three hundred pounds, he eclipsed Hudson’s smaller wolf Therian frame. As big as Seb was, Rafe was just that tiny bit bigger, certainly broader. It saddened Hudson. Rafe hadn’t always hated him. Once upon a time, Rafe had been kind to him, even smiled.

“I’m okay,” Rafe replied. He cleared his throat, looking larger than life as he sat across from Hudson. “Thank you for asking.”

Hudson nodded. “What can I do for you?”

“I wanted to talk to you about Nina. I know things are still strained between the two of you, and it’s my fault. She did it to protect me. Please, don’t be mad at her. She loves you, Hudson. If you could only see how much pain she’s in, how much she misses you.”

The last six months had been rather awkward. Although Hudson was on speaking terms with Nina, their relationship had suffered greatly. How could they get back to the way things were after she’d purposefully kept him in the dark? For months, day after day, she’d looked him in the eye, going on as if nothing had happened, and all the while sharing Rafe’s bed.

“I would have thought you’d be happy to be rid of me once and for all. She’s the only connection left between me and your family.” There was no bitterness in Hudson’s voice, only sadness.

Rafe straightened, looking affronted. “How can you say that? You’re connected to my brother in the most significant way possible, which, by the way, I don’t get you. You took three bullets for him, are obviously still as much in love with him now as you were then, and he worships you, yet you keep pushing him away. Why won’t you come home?”

Hudson inhaled sharply. Rafe’s words hit him harder than expected. “Why… why would you say such a thing?”

“That you two should be together?”

“No. That I should come home.”

Rafe raked a hand through his hair and let out a heavy sigh. He appeared to give a lot of thought to the question, as if trying to find the right words.

“Fuck it.” Rafe met Hudson’s gaze, his eyes intense. “Because you’re a part of our family, always were. You’re his home, Hudson. He’s been lost since you left, and I don’t want to see him in pain anymore. He deserves to be happy, and that’ll never happen without you. He needs you. My family needs you. My mom misses the hell out of you. She’s always asking about you. Ethan misses you, my dad—”

“Don’t,” Hudson pleaded, blinking back the tears in his eyes. “Please don’t use Thomas.”

“It’s the truth. You may not want to hear it, but that’s the way it is. We are your pack, Hudson. You walked away from us, and yes, I hated you for a long time for what I believed you were doing to my brother, but I think I also resented you.”

Hudson was stunned. “For what?”

“For leaving. No one blamed you. Okay, I blamed you, but I was an asshole. My mom, dad, Ethan, Seb, none of them blamed you. They just wanted you home.”

#TeaserTuesday – 2/7/17 The Foxling Soldati (Soldati Hearts, Book 2)

Hello, all! This week’s Teaser Tuesday is a snippet from Toka and Rayner’s book, The Foxling Soldati which is book two in the Soldati Hearts series! Enjoy!

[Khalon] stood and stretched before leaning over to kiss the top of Riley’s head. “You must meet with Uburto regarding your ceremonial wardrobe for the evening of the banquet.”

Riley wrinkled his nose. “He’s going to drown me in layers again, isn’t he?”

Rayner held back a laugh at Riley’s pout. His princely ceremonial garb was a far cry from the T-shirts and jeans Riley had been accustomed to wearing when he first arrived in the Soldati realm. Come to think of it, any princely garb he wore was a far cry from his previous human wardrobe. During events that required Riley to wear more than his trousers and a simple jerkin over a shirt, Riley had a habit of discretely shedding pieces of his clothing as the evening went on, much to Rayner’s amusement, and Khalon’s befuddlement.

Khalon hadn’t quite known what to do the first time it happened. One moment Riley was dressed in various layers, including a regal cape, next moment he was in his trousers, and a thin royal tunic over his shirt. Rayner was quite certain the man hadn’t even worn a belt. The most fascinating part was that after the initial shock wore off, no one cared. They were all so charmed by Riley that the man’s lack of royal attire became no consequence, simply another quirk of the dashing Soldati Prince.

“I know,” Khalon said through a chuckle. “It’s not as if you’ll be wearing it for long.” He gave Riley a pointed look, but the sternness was gone the moment Riley’s cheeks went pink. Khalon realized what Riley had taken his words to mean, and coughed into his hand. “What I mean, is um, you tend to remove your clothes, um….”

“Not helping,” Riley muttered.

“Right. I’m going to go… do the things.” Khalon pointed to the door.

“Yeah, you go do the things,” Riley said, his lips pressed together as Khalon rounded his desk. Khalon narrowed his eyes at Rayner as he walked by.

“Oh, be quiet.”

Rayner suppressed a grin, and held his hands up in front of him. “I didn’t say anything.” Grumbling to himself, Khalon left the office, and Rayner fell back against the chair with a laugh. “The man is absolutely hopeless around you.”

Riley let out what sounded like a dreamy sigh. “Yeah, he’s something all right.”

“You two are adorable.”

Riley gave a sniff. “Now I know why he’s always telling you to be quiet.”

“A very noble attempt on his part,” Rayner teased.

#TeaserTuesday – 1/17/17 – Dreamspun Desires

Hello, all! This week’s Teaser Tuesday is a snippet from my current work in progress which is a new Dreamspun Desires book! Enjoy!

2016Divider

“I need you to help me with something.” Matthew felt his face burning up, and he cleared his throat as he opened his top desk drawer to pull out a small lined notepad.

“Of course.”

“It’s… kind of personal.”

“Whatever it is, Matthew, you know I’ll help.”

If he couldn’t trust Adam, who could he trust? They weren’t just colleagues, they were friends. They’d known each other for years. Adam had cried on Matthew’s shoulder when his last boyfriend cheated on him and broke his heart into tiny pieces. The bastard. Matthew had been there to help Adam pick up the pieces, and when Matthew’s father had a heart attack, Adam was there to help Matthew from falling apart. Adam kept Hart & Home running without a glitch during Matthew’s absence while his father recovered.

“I know you’ll help,” Matthew replied, meeting Adam’s gaze. “It’s just a little…” Desperate? Embarrassing? “Private.”

“And you don’t think I can be discreet?” Adam arched a perfectly shaped eyebrow at him.

Matthew frowned. “Don’t be silly. There’s no one I trust more.”

“Okay then. Out with it.”

“I need you to….” Matthew shifted uncomfortably in his chair. His words almost a mumble when he spoke. “Get me a man.”

Adam nodded. He pursed his lips in thought. “Okay. How long do you want him for?”

The question caught Matthew off guard. “Well, I was kind of hoping… forever, or something along those lines?” Adam was more laid back about this than Matthew anticipated.

“Oh, you mean, like a mail order groom? I thought you just wanted an escort.”

“What?” Matthew gaped at his friend. “A what? Mail order—an escort? I don’t want either!” He threw a hand over his mouth when he realized how loud that had come out. He lowered his voice. “I meant a husband. I need you to help me find a husband. You know, introduce me to some guys that are looking to settle down, and maybe one of them might, I don’t know, want to settle down with me.”

Adam’s eyebrows shot up near his hairline. “You want to get married?”

“Why do you look so shocked?” Matthew wasn’t sure whether to feel insulted, or touched that Adam knew him so well. “When you thought I wanted a prostitute or a mail order groom you didn’t blink, but I tell you I want to get married and suddenly your eyebrows fly off your face.”

Adam’s expression turned deadpan. “Matthew, milk has a longer shelf life than the majority of your relationships.”

“Wow. Thanks.”
